Garoppolo came in cold and threw a touchdown to make it 10-0. The half ended 13-0 49ers. Geno Smith got one drive going in the second half but the 49ers' defense generated two takeaways. The Seahawks' only score came on the Tariq Woolen blocked field goal that Michael Jackson returned 86 yards.
The turning point
Lance's injury. The season's biggest story changed in one play. Garoppolo, the most polished backup in the NFL, took over and looked exactly like the quarterback he had been the last four seasons.
